Happy holidays year 1!

I would like to say a huge thank you for all your kind words, cards and gifts but also for your support since I have been teaching year 1.

I have really enjoyed teaching the class through the summer term and watching them blossom ready for year 2 with Mrs Hayes, where I am sure they shall continue to be enthusiastic learners.

If you find yourself with a spare minute, please try to fit in some reading with your child and ask them to write any adventures they get up to, practising joining letters together.

I wish you all a very relaxing summer and hope the warm weather continues!

Class Assembly and Houses

It has been a very busy week for year 1, but I would like to cast back to last weeks class assembly which the children put so much effort into. Mrs Ruffell and I were so impressed with the motivation and confidence year 1 had to showcase just a handful of their recent learning to you and the school. The children really did us proud. Thank you for helping them learn their lines at home. This helped greatly with their confidence and projection.

In science &D&T we are learning the uses of materials to build house for the Three Little Pigs. Last week we usedlego to ensure secure structure and a solid roof to keep the Big Bad Wolf out. This week we have started to use a range of materials to build another house which we shall then test to see whether they are wind and rain proof.

Year 3’s Thanksgiving Mass

Today we had a Thanksgiving mass in school to celebrate many of the Year 3 class members taking their First Holy Communion recently.
It was a lovely chance for the children to celebrate this special occasion with each other. I also think they enjoyed getting to wear their special clothing and share it with their friends. They all looked so smart and grown-up!

Thank-you to the parents for sending in their outfits and for the kind donations of food and drinks for our celebration afterwards!

Judaism Week

This week we were lucky to have Rush from Judaism for Schools to teach us about her faith. On Thursday she led a workshop for year 1 and provided lots of information about The Story of Moses which we have also be learning about during RE.

Year 1 had lots of fun learning about Judaism and sampling some of the food they have during Passover.

Donations required!

When you return to school on Tuesday you may notice a new addition by the gate in the playground … it is our new recycling bin!

As you can see, it clearly states which materials are accepted and we would love for you to get involved by donating some clothes, towels, sheets, blankets, curtains or even shoes. The bank holiday weekend is the perfect time for a spring clean and all donations are greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance,

Y3 Maths Strategies

I know that a few parents have asked to see the methods we use in class so they are better able to support their child’s learning. I have put together a document that shows an overview of each method and some examples for the four operations: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. I have also included the method we would use in class to approach word problems.

I hope that you find it helpful.
If you have any further questions, please ask!
