News from Year 1 – bouncing, smoothies and Sports Day!

What a lovely week we’ve had this week. We have really enjoyed making smoothies in DT and taking part in Sports Day.

We started the week by focusing on what makes fruits and vegetables what they are. Fruits have seeds and usually grow from flowers. Vegetables can grow in or above the ground. We then taste tested different fruits and vegetables to find out which we would like to include in our smoothies. We really enjoyed the sweet mangoes but weren’t too keen on the bitter spinach! In our final lesson, we learnt how to chop and prepare the fruit and vegetables (carefully and hygienically!) ready to be made into smoothies. The end product was so tasty!

We also took part in a sponsored bounce arranged by our fabulous PTA! Please make sure you get your sponsorship money in as soon as possible. Your child has been sent home with a form and an email was sent out with more details last week.

We really enjoyed our Sports Day this week. We got to take part in lots of activities including throwing, running, jumping and balancing. Thank you to all the parents who came to support us. Here are some picture below from the day.

Well done to our cheerleaders who have worked so hard in their morning sessions. They put on a fabulous show, with pom poms and all. Super stars!

We have also been learning about the country Kenya, as it is a country in the Commonwealth. We used the book Handa’s Surprise to find out more about the country, as is it set in Kenya. We linked our learning about different fruits in DT to Kenya too, as some ingredients for our smoothies are grown there, like mangoes.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Battams 🙂
