It’s beginning to feel a bit like Christmas in year 4…

The baubles the children have decorated and brought in look stunning on the Advent promises display. The Kris Kringles are accumulating at the Christmas tree and it’s very tempting to have a squeeze and try to guess what is in each one. It’s also a time for showing little acts of kindness which can cheer up the chilly, damp days.

In RHE the children have been learning about how they are all unique and that God is always there for them. Everyone is born to love, to be loved and to make a difference. Here the children are singing to song for this topic.

We have also been practising carols for the grandparents’ tea next week. We’re looking forward to seeing grandparents and any other relatives on that day.

The children all looked amazing and festive in their Christmas jumpers – every one was different!

Thank you very much to Luisa, Serena’s Mum, who came into class in her capacity as a dentist to share knowledge of teeth cleaning and hygiene. The children crunched a blue “plaque reveal” tablet to show where old and new plaque was on their teeth; and then cleaned it off. Luisa shared lots of important information about how to avoid sugar and how to keep teeth strong throughout a lifetime. What she told us married with what we found out in our investigation this week – Coca-cola erodes the layers of teeth and so does orange juice, because of the sugar and acids in them.

Year 2 love to perform

The children performed brilliantly in their Christmas play this week and they should be very proud of their enthusiastic singing and wonderful acting. Every single line was delivered clearly as the children reflected on the true meaning of Christmas and had great fun too!

Reception – Advent!

06.12.24

Hello children, parents and carers,
What a busy, busy week. We talked about Advent, practised on stage for the performance, role played the Nativity story and wrote letters to Santa!
Our playdough table turned into bumpy road with Mary and Joseph, wise men and shepherds. The children were singing the Nativity songs while playing and had a great time exploring what’s on the table:

Our small world area turned into a Nativity scene and the children are now able to retell the christmas story, make books and role play the Christmas story with their friends.

Our Letters to Santa were such a hit. What a great way to practise blending, segmenting and handwriting… all through play. The children are more and more confident using what they know. I can’t be more proud.

In Little Wandle last week we were learning how to read words with ‘s’ at the end: cat -s, hat -s, bag -s, etc. The children are getting more and more confident blending 4 sounds together. We also learnt 3 new tricky words:

This week it’s assessment week and we will be busy checking for any gaps. Then we will be revisiting all phase 2 sounds and tricky words until Christmas.

Last Friday we took part in a very special Dressing of the Christmas tree assembly. Well done to Evie and Kanon for being so sensible and helping Mrs Porter to decorate the tree. You did a smashing job 🙂
In class we thought about Advent and how to be more like Jesus during Advent. We wrote our Advent promises and also picked a Special Christmas friend. The chosen name is in your child’s reading record.

This week is going to be a very important one!
We were preparing props and learning how to use the microphone. The children are very, very excited to show you everything they learned in the last couple of weeks.

We are very much looking forward seeing you all on Wednesday 11th December at 10am for a very special performance. We’ve worked very hard and I am sure you will love it!!!
Please be reminded that the deadline for the outfits was 4th December.

And finally but not least, congratulations for all your hard work and motivation! You truly deserve the awards, red sash and golden rosette!!!

Sharing the Good News with Year Six

It’s been another busy week for Year Six and it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

On Wednesday, our year six Caritas Ambassadors journeyed to Westminster Cathedral to join children from across the diocese to hear again the Christmas story .

Thursday saw the culmination of all our hard work as we shared the Christmas story ourselves in the key stage two carol service. The children we fantastic, acting out their roles, narrating the story and singing angelically.

Advent in Year 2

We are enjoying journeying through Advent with lots of different ways to show that we are preparing for the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day,

Reception – Christmas preparations!

29.11.24

Hello children, parents and carers,
This week we’ve been busy spreading the Christmas joy and making sure that our room looks festive and all dressed for the coming celebrations . As you can imagine the children took an active part in the preparations. They decorated the Christmas tree independently, making sure everyone had a turn hanging a bauble. I think you will all agree that the tree looks amazing 🙂

Our home corner is also set for Christmas and the children were busy cooking festive meals for friends and family. Everyone had a great fun!

And of course the Christmas shop is officially open. It has everything you might need for great festive shopping! From bakery to toys and clothes, or if you prefer books and chocolates. We did our own price list and the children are using great counting and subitising skills to make sure they have the correct change 🙂

If you are thinking that all we did is playing you are wrong. In Little Wandle we’ve learnt 4 new digraphs and 4 new tricky words – she, he, of, push.

We also read super long sentences like: ‘It is a mess in this bag’. Thank you for your support and making sure that your children read at home too.

And finally but not least, congratulations for all your hard work and motivation! You truly deserve the awards, red sash and golden rosette!!!

Dates to remember:

This week in year 4

Well done to everyone in year 4 for the huge collection of cakes last Friday. The children enjoyed their doughnut or muffin on Monday morning. I have ordered a set of model teeth and a cloth version of the digestive system to help with our current science learning.

After learning lines for the class assembly, it’s time to learn more for the carol concert – songs and some narrator parts. The children have been reciting both sets very well and we look forward to performing to you next Thursday, 5th December.

Thank you for writing beautiful prayers and presenting them beautifully in the class prayer book. This will go home to one family on Friday, to be brought back in the following Wednesday please. There are suggestions for writing prayers and examples of prayers for children in the little bag.

Names for Christingle will go home next week. Please use the £3 limit for the gift you buy, so everyone receives something similar.

The children all wrote very clear, well-thought out explanation texts about how an electric sharpener works. I never knew there was so much to it! The class has also been learning about teeth in science – a particularly fascinating topic when you are 8 or 9 and losing and gaining teeth!

I hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing the children again next week, with the start of Advent!

Year 3: Catholic Social Teaching

In our recent lessons on Catholic Social Teaching, we explored the principle of the Option for the Poor. Together, we reflected on key scripture passages and discussed meaningful ways we can make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Inspired by this, we created Advent calendars designed to encourage daily acts of giving and kindness for the less fortunate. Take a look at some photos showcasing the creativity and thoughtfulness of our work!

Nursery – 29.11.2024

This week in RE we thought about what a birthday is. Our birthday is the day we were born and will be the same day each year. We celebrated Kipper’s birthday in class. We had a party for him, wrote out invitations and made birthday cards.

This week we had a visit from Richard, the postman for this area. He told us all about being a postman and the jobs he has to do. He showed us some of the letters and parcels he had in his bag as well as a special machine he uses for scanning barcodes.

Have a good weekend
