Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mums!
Nursery – 17.03.2023
Our story this week was The 3 Little Pigs. The children have enjoyed learning about the pigs and what they used to make their houses. In the nursery there were a variety of 3 Little Pigs activities for the children to have a go at such as dressing the pigs, making one of the houses using the large construction blocks outside, 3 little pigs role play and 3 Little PIgs Bingo which the children enjoyed.
The children also enjoyed watching this very funny version of the story online:
This week as part of our RE lesson we were able to go out on our spring walk to find signs of new life growing outside, the children had their own clipboard and had to tick off what they found.
We have decided to do our own growing in class, we will watch and observe closely over the next few days to see the mung beans grow.
The children have been working really hard this week practising the songs for Mothers Day. They did really well in the assembly this morning and sang so beautifully – they also liked seeing their siblings singing.

Have a lovely weekend and wishing all the mums a very happy mothers day on Sunday.

Science week in Year 6
This week, as part of our science topic, Light, Year 6 have learnt about the work of Sir Isaac Newton.
In 1666, Newton made a discovery about light that led him to develop his Theory of Colour, a theory that still informs our understanding of light today. He placed a prism in front of ray of light, and his observations were incredible.
We worked together to replicate Newton’s discoveries in class. Isaac Newton realised that although light looks white, it is actually made up of all the colours of the rainbow. When these colours merge together, it looks white to our eyes, but we can use a prism to separate the different colours of the spectrum using refraction.
Reception – Snowy surprise
10.03.23
What a surprise this week! Planned to go on a spring walk and ended up building snowmen and having snowball fights 🙂
Despite the cold weather the daffodils we have planted in October are looking amazing and smell gorgeous. The children are looking after them so well… have a look at yourself:
In Little Wandle this week we continued reading longer words. We even read a word with 7 sounds… we had to chunk it not 2, but three times. We are also practising writing sentences and the children are really doing well remembering the rules, capital letter, finger spaces and full stop. In your childs orange book you will find some of the longer words we have read.
In PSED this week we talked about friendships and discussed what a good friend is. The children were able to compare good and bad choices and then to apply different strategies.
Things to remember:
Friday morning (17.03.23) – Mothers day assembly
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Solakova
Year 4 week ending 10th March
Year 4 finished learning about “The Lion and The Unicorn” by writing their own versions of the story and used creative noun phrases to describe the scary night scene when their main character tried to run away. “Jack felt crushed, he made a decision. Stealthily, he packed his bags and snuck out the back door. Through the garden he weaved through the branches from the dead tree. After that, he scampered through the arch …”
Understanding about fractions is going well and the children are using complex terminology such as “improper fraction”.
The children supported Mrs Porter in her sponsored walk, not letting a bit of rain put them off.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Year 3 Class Assembly!
This week we had our class assembly on Lent. We retold the story of Jesus in the wilderness, and we also spoke about what Lent meant to us. Here are some photos of our fantastic assembly.
Stanley’s Stick
This week we have finished our English block on Stanley’s Stick by writing our own version called Sarah’s Sock. We have had a funny time in class exploring all the different things an odd (or pair) of socks can be!
In Maths we have been using manipulatives to make numbers to 40 and we are learning to order, read and write them as well.
We have also spent some time focusing on whole body listening to encourage better focus.
Year 2 celebrate diversity
As part of Racial Justice Sunday, the children created some thoughtful posters promoting an anti-racist message. Take a look to see just how imaginative the children have been.
Nursery – 10.03.2023
This week we looked at the story The Gingerbread Man. We have read and watched different versions of the story. On Tuesday we made our very own Gingerbread man to enjoy at home. We helped prepare all the ingredients and then put them in to a bowl and gave it a good stir! We all had a piece of dough to roll out and a cutter to make our gingerbread man. Some of us put raisins on our gingerbread man – yummy!
Lent
Thank you for bringing in your Lentern Promises. The children have been enjoying looking at the tree and talking to their friends about the promise they have made.
On Thursday afternoon we joined Mrs Porter and the KS2 children to walk around the path on the field. Mrs Porter is completing The Big Lent Walk during Lent and we wanted to join her to show our support!

Please join us on Friday mornings between 8:45-9:00am for reading mornings.
Next Friday (17th) we will be going to the Mothers Day Assembly in the hall – parents are invited to attend.
Have a lovely weekend.

Year 2 love to read
We had a great time on World Book Day, celebrating our love of books, reading and writing. The day started with an opportunity to show off our outfits in a whole school assembly, followed by a shared reading session with our Year 6 buddies. After sharing poems with a friend, we then explored rhyming words and wrote our own amazing poems that we published in a class book. We also created our own beautiful bookmarks that we will be able to use in our favourite books. We have all brought a poetry book home, so our next challenge is to learn a poem to recite to our friends.
