Reasoning skills allow an individual to approach a problem, understand how to solve it, and then apply certain methods to arrive at a viable solution. Reasoning skills can be developed and used. Teachers facilitate reasoning through higher order questioning, challenging pupils with cognitive conflict and requiring pupils to clarify explanations.
