A creative week

Year 4 have been reusing their sewing skills learnt last year and have really enjoyed making book covers, with fasteners. They look beautiful and I was very proud of the independence and co-operation with which the children completed the task.

The class has also been very creative with their writing, as they started writing a brochure to inform the reader about the lands they have created, inspired by the fantastic book “Weslandia”. The children are now confident, writing interesting noun phrases and starting to use adventurous words from their own reading.

The children have prepared artwork for two different coronations next week – for the Crowning of Mary and for the coronation of King Charles III on Friday.

We have completed the learning about the duration of time and will begin decimals next week.

I hope you all have a very happy May Bank Holiday!

Our New Mayor!

We were delighted to welcome the mayor of St Albans, Cllr Geoff Harrison and the mace-bearer to our assembly today. As well as sharing the background to this historic role in our city, we learnt what happens at the mayor-making meeting of the City and Distric Council.

Our head boy and girl were elevated to new roles before joining with the school council to share refresments with our guests.

Year 2 love to read

This week, we started our new English teaching sequence on the theme of Wolves. We had great fun exploring traditional tales involving wolves and also read non-fiction texts to find out what wolves are really like. We compared the different versions and are keen to learn more about wolves. This term, we will be learning about different habitats and our learning in English forms part of this, which shows just how important cross curricular learning is here at St Adrian’s. Parents can find out more about our learning this term on the termly curriculum overview, which can be found on the Google Classroom.

Year 1 go swimming

Here we all are, after our first swimming lesson at Westminster Lodge. We were superstars and showed that we are ready to learn new skills all the time!

Reception – Welcome back!

21.04.23

It is unbelievable that the summer term is upon us! Where did the time go? I really hope that you have had a restful break, with lots of memorable moments and of course chocolate eggs :).
The first half of the term is 6 weeks long with quite a lot of Bank holidays. We are going to be learning about life cycles (the caterpillars arrived yesterday and we are all very excited to see them grow and transform into butterflies). We will also be learning about the royal family and the upcoming coronation. Towards the end of the half term we will take part in an Art week and will produce a piece for a very special exhibition.
In RE we will be talking about The Holy Spirit, Good news and Pentecost and will held a fiery Pentecost party.
In Little Wandle we will continue with phase 4 sounds and tricky words, so watch out for new tricky words in your child’s orange book.

Update on Tapestry:
We are still experiencing technical difficulties with Tapestry at the moment. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Have a lovely weekend!

Year 4’s first week’s round-up

Welcome back and to the summer term! Year 4 were outside in the sun yesterday, starting the rounders which is one of this half-term’s PE topics. It’s been a short week, during which we started our new History topic “The Anglo-Saxons and Scots”, our new book “Weslandia” and are getting into the plot of “Letters From The Lighthouse”.

The new home learning grid is now on Google Classroom. One of the possible activities is to draw aspects of Anglo-Saxon life. It would be fantastic to have these ready for our History display as it always looks so much better with original artwork.

The TTRS leaderboard is looking amazing – year 4 pupils up at the top, where they should be! Keep up the practice.

Let’s hope the sun stays out this weekend and I hope you all have a great few days.

Nursery – 21.04.2023

Welcome back everyone, it was lovely to see the children back on Tuesday. The children took part in circle time where they told their friends what they did in the Easter Holidays. It was great to hear all the lovely things they got up to including easter egg hunts, visiting relatives and going to the cinema to see Super Mario!

This week we have looked at the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Lots of the children already know the story so it was great they could join in with the words. We watched a video about a lady called Mabel, she visited a butterfly sanctuary and told us lots of wonderful things about both caterpillars and butterflies.

Today our special visitors arrived…..

We are going to be watching the caterpillars over the next week or so to see how they change, I wonder how long it will be before they turn into butterflies?

Our new role play areas are open, the children can play in the new school or they could visit the pizza parlour to either make or taste yummy pizza.

This term we will continue to do PE on Monday mornings and visit the Library every Friday.

Please could all spare clothes bags be returned to school.

Have a lovely weekend.

Reception – Easter!

31.03.23

And just like that it’s the end of another term! An amazing term full of fun, learning and excitement!
This week we really enjoyed learning all about Easter, welcoming you for a special Hot Cross Bun gathering, creating Easter cards, making Easter baskets and so much more.

In Little Wandle we continued reading longer words and words that finish with ‘s’ like queens, torches, cheeps. We also practised spelling words like visit and had to remember that we say ‘z’, but write ‘s’. The children are definitely building their confidence and it is so lovely to see them becoming more and more independent.

Our Easter cards are looking fabulous too and we are all very proud with our messages inside… all done by the children. Brilliant writing Reception!

We continued planting fruit and veg outside and the garden is looking smashing! With strawberries on the fence and cabbage, carrots, radishes and lettuce in the raised garden. The children carefully placed some seeds and watered them. We really hope that they will grow!

Thank you very much for coming to our Hot Cross Bun gathering. It was lovely to share our learning with you and sing some songs. And the buns were so delicious!

The Easter Bonnets looked absolutely incredible! Well done to Rosanne and Luke for winning the competition and to everybody else for taking part.

Things to remember:
Easter holidays – 03. 04. 2023 – 17.03.23 (Monday 17th – inset day)
Practise books – due to having a stock-take during Easter holidays (please check your emails) no books have been sent home this week. Instead you can use the Collins Ebook logins and read with your child. All titles read so far have been added (you can find a sticker with your login details in your child’s reading record).
As always thank you for your continued support!

Have an Eggcellent break!!!
Looking forward seeing you soon!

Year 2 learn across the curriculum

This term, we have been busy learning so many different things and here are some of our classroom displays that celebrate our tremendous achievements. Well done Year Two!

Happy Easter from Year 4

We’ve had a great week in year 4. Our Lent learning culminated in this week’s reflection and celebration today and the children’s understanding of the Lent season has deepened. Their contributions to the Liturgical Art competition were varied and stunning.

We very much enjoyed reading “Matchbox Diary” and will start “Weslandia” when we return. “The Lighthouse Letters” is already intriguing and we’re looking forward to continuing that after the holiday.

The “Rock Steady” children gave fantastic performances on Tuesday and the choir gave a rousing, beautiful performance today. A few more members of year 4 joined the choir recently and it would be wonderful to see more children doing the same. Joining in a song with a large group of people is a brilliant feeling.

Thank you for your support of your children this term, whether it be by buying cakes or helping with home learning or all the other positive, supportive things you do for your children and families. I wish you all a relaxing, enjoyable holiday whether at home or abroad and look forward to seeing you all again in late April.
