Reception – A week full of talents!

23.06.23

Lots and lots of experiences this week… First we played the paralympic game Boccia, and watched paralympic swimming. We talked about how anything is possible if you are not giving up and keep on trying:

As part of the music week we’ve participated in a Jazz workshop, practicing different beats and rhythms, thinking about how the music makes us feel. The children even listened to a real saxophone! How exciting!

And finally we’ve watched and enjoyed the St. Adrians got talent show. Well done to those who were super brave to go for the auditions. And of course a big round of applause for our finalists!!! You were absolutely brilliant. Well done!

Open evening – Wednesday 28th June, 4:00 – 5:30 pm

Wonderful workshop week

Year 4 threw themselves into this week’s activities. They really enjoyed the wheelchair basketball/handball session on Monday, learning some new skills. On Tuesday we learnt some dance moves and on Wednesday had a very creative time playing percussion instruments and dancing to “jazz with Johnny”.

On Friday some children from year 4 attended the “World Games” at Oaklands College. We were part of the “Netherlands” team and did a great selection of sports and sporting activities. All the children showed great perseverance – really needed in the “slackrope” challenge! – and good sports skills. (Photos to follow).

We were sorry to miss “St Adrians Got Talent”, but have heard how fantastic the perfomers – Aiden & Jeremy and Sofia – from year 4 were. We also heard the other perfomers who auditioned, at lunchtime; and they were also excellent, putting a lot of preparation into their acts. Well done to everyone who participated.

Wonderful Workshops!

This week we have been busy with many fun workshops. Here are some photographs of the jazz and dance workshop.

School Council organises St Adrian’s Got Talent

Since before half term, the school council has been planning and preparing for this event. The members of the school council, designed and created posters to advertise the auditions, they gave up their lunch times for over a week to watch and judge all of the auditions.

Today, was the final and the judges took to their seats and watched each finalist very carefully before making their final decision.

On the 23rd of June, it was the day for the final and the school judges took to their seats and watched each finalist very carefully before making their final decision.

The first act was Rosanne from Reception and she played the piano exceptionally well for her age. Then Jessica Tran also from Reception sang lighter by Diana and Roma. Sofia from Year 1 sang a classic book, The Gruffalo. After that Orlagh, Eva, Darcy and Molly from Year 1 sang My Lighthouse. Colette and Serena from Year 2 played the piano and violin together. Jan played his hand drum whilst singing Haaland.

Arthur from  Year 3 played the piano extremely well and then Harper and May sang a kids favourite song Its Raining Tacos. Then Jeremy and Aiden from Y4 sang a Liverpool football club classic Si Sinior. Second from Year 4 was Sofia Peru who was one of the best pianists.First from Year 5 were a band of Lucy,Lara,Rukksika,Jessica and Katie performing We Will Rock You.

Then Abbie and Maya sang Blinding lights whilst playing the piano.

After that we had one of the best acts Tatenda singing This is me.

Last but not least Jayron played the piano.

After many brilliant acts we had to announce the winner. It was very hard but after a lot of discussion we chose the Year 5 band that played We Will Rock You. We presented them with a trophy and let them play their outstanding song one more time.

Reception – Happy Fathers Day!

16.06.23

Some Dads are big Dads and some Dads are small,
some Dads are shorter and some Dads are tall,
Some Dads wear blue jeans and some Dads wear suits,
some Dads wear sneakers and some wear boots.
But this Dad is my Dad from head down to toe
He is really the very best Dad that I know!
Happy Fathers Day!!!

We worked very hard writing very special Father’s day messages and hope that you will enjoy your cards on Sunday. Have a look at what we’ve made…

In Maths this week we were focusing on deepening the children’s understanding of how to compare quantities. The activities we did helped us to check children’s comprehension and provided opportunities for further comparison experiences. We even get to use rekenreks! Exciting times!

In Little Wandle we continued reading longer words and revisiting the tricky words thought so far. Please take time to practice them home as well. These tricky words prove to be very tricky!!! Here are a few examples of the words we’ve read today:

Have a lovely weekend and especially to all the dads, grandads, step dads, uncles, brothers, cousins and friends that step up to show a child what it truly means to be a Father.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY…….

Sketching and Science at Kew

Year 4 had glorious weather for their trip to Kew. The question was, on a day like Thursday, was the weather more tropical in Kew or the rainforest habitat in The Palm House? I was pleased to see the children remembered the geographical knowledge from the last two years, telling Katie – the Kew education leader – about the equator, why countries there were hotter, naming the Amazon Forest and the countries it covers. The children used specialist equipment to measure humidity, soil temperature, soil moisture and air temperature. We then explored The Palm House to find out how animals and plants co-exist in rainforest eco-systems. Can your child tell you some of the examples? The children also enjoyed sketching in the Temperate House – which was cooler than it was outside – and had lovely picnics sitting in the shade on the botannical garden’s beautiful lawns.

The lily pond house was stunning and the children enjoyed seeing, and some sketched, the enormous lilies. Wel also visited the hive which is an amazing structure – a type of pavilion – which “hums” the hotter it is.

A huge thank you to the very kind parents who gave up a day to help out on the trip. These events would not go nearly as well without your support. And apologies for the mix-up about collecting at the end of the day. I didn’t realise adults would wait at the front of the school and then thought we could dismiss children from the car park, but the children went through to the classroom first. Thank you for coming round to the playground where we could see everyone safely to their adults.

After the father’s day assembly, the children will be painting based on what they saw and experienced on Thursday.

Year Two enjoy learning about habitats

As part of our learning in Science and Computing, we had a wonderful trip to RSPB Rye Meads. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves hunting for little creatures in a variety of habitats including ponds, grassland and the woodland floor.

We recorded the information that we collected on the computer and have learned how to present this data in many different ways. We are also creating shoebox habitats that include all the things that an animal needs to survive, such as food, water and shelter. Once again, we have shown just how creative we are! We are looking forward to displaying our habitats for everyone to see at our open evening on Wednesday 28th June (4-5.30 pm).

It was fabulous to see so many dads at our Father’s Day assembly. The children were very enthusiastic about singing their song and even asked to practise on the coach when we travelled to Rye Meads together. The children all have a beautiful card for their fathers in their book bags which they are looking forward to giving them on Sunday. Happy Father’s Day everyone!
