(Please see last week’s post to find out what we did to start our Structures topic). The next step in our Design and Technology project was to create a chair for a bear that followed our designs. We used what we had learned about structures to write clear success criteria and we had to make sure that the chair was stable and strong, so that the bear did not fall off. We worked well as a team and once our chairs were completed, we found out how many bears our chairs would hold. Some chairs held as many as 34 bears without collapsing. This shows once again what strong structures cylinders are!
Reception – Children in need
17.11.23
Hello children, parents and carers,
this is our week in a nutshell 🙂
On Monday we’ve had a special anti – bullying assembly and talked a lot about being kind and respectful towards everyone in school and home. We also discussed how we need to ‘MAKE A NOISE’ and tell someone if we notice other children being unkind. To show everybody that we are all different and unique we came to school wearing odd socks.
Big thank you to Emily’s mum for coming to school and talking about her profession. It was lovely to hear what she does, helping people all around Europe to understand how food waste is a massive problem and how to limit food waste. She gave us good tips on how to make sure we don’t waste any food in our homes by doing weekly shopping, making sure we check the fridge regularly and only buy what we need.
In Little Wandle this week we’ve learned 1 new grapheme and 2 new digraphs. We are talking more and more about digraphs (2 letters, but 1 sound) and the children are doing so well remembering them.
We also began reading words ending with -s, like cats, hits, maps. Please make sure you check your children’s orange books for new tricky words. This week we’ve learned to, go, into and no.
In Maths we talked about circles and triangles. The children had to explain how they know it’s a triangle and how they know it’s a circle:
It’s a circle because it’s round.
It’s a triangle because it has 3 sides and 3 corners.
On Friday we celebrated World multiplication day’. The children engaged in a wide variety of songs, rhymes, games and activities. In practical activities and through discussion they began to solve problems involving doubling.
2 cakes for little bear and 2 cakes for big bear. How many cakes all together?
Children in need
Thank you for your generous donations. The cakes looked and smelled amazing.
Have a lovely weekend!
Looking forward seeing you all next week.

A day of spots, stripes and times tables
Year 4 has completed many topics in learning this week. They completed their story about the varmints, learnt all about Area (in Maths) and have continued learning about Sound in Science amongst other learning. They looked fantastic in their spots and have made some amazing-looking cakes.
Mr Hayes has released powerpoints for the Christmas songs for the KS2 play. The link is below. Please spend some time at home learning the words so the songs sound amazing at the performance. Have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nDi_UuwLfmAC_ZB_-fWD8Y1uEfJjgcXx
Year 3 Celebrates Children in Need
We celebrated Children in Need by wearing spots and stripes. Here are some photos of our celebration.
On Multiplication Day, we played games to help us learn our times tables. Our favorite game was Around the Clock Multiplication. Each child filled in a section of the clock with the times tables.
Nursery – 17.11.2023
We started our week by wearing odd socks as part of Anti Bullying week, here we all are in our odd socks.
This week we looked at the initial sound ‘t’. We looked at objects beginning with this sound such as tiger, tomato, tractor, timer, train and toast and a tyrannosaurus rex. Can you find anything in your house beginning with ‘t’?
In maths this week we have been looking at the number 1 and tried to make number 1 happy by giving him just one thing, number 1 is not happy if he has more than 1. The children have got a ‘happy number one’ and a ‘sad number ‘ in their bag to play with and explore at home.
In RE we are continuing to talk about Baptism. This week we had a go at Baptising a baby in class, the children were very good at it and had a go at saying ‘I Baptise you in the name of the Father, of the Son and the Holy Spirit’.
The children also shared their Baptism items with us

Year Six learn first aid
We have been busy once again: this time, we learnt the basics of first aid from Daisy who taught us, not just about how to get help in an emergency, but how to provide some basic first aid too. In the session, the children learnt about assessing an emergency situation with DR ABC, before practising putting a casualty in the recovery position and CPR.
As well as Children in Need, today is World Multiplication Day. We spent our maths lesson, putting our knowledge of multiplication facts to the test, deciphering codes hidden amongst the times tables.
Design and Technology in Year 2
We have had great fun exploring structures, especially thinking about what makes a structure stable. We used construction materials to build our own models and discovered that cylinders are particularly strong structures. We found many manmade structures like climbing frames, slides, tables and chairs used cylinders. To find out why, we created our own cylinders and discovered that they could hold many things. One cardboard cylinder was strong enough to hold a table tray! Our next challenge is to use what we have learned to design our own chair for a bear and then create it out of card.
Remembering at St Adrians
Year 4 sat respectfully during today’s Remembrance Service and sang very well. Thank you to the children who created beautiful “stained glass windows” for this year.
The children always enjoy the library trip and yuekeles on Friday.
They have finished learning about addition and subtraction and will start Area next week. Their versions of “The Varmints” are progressing very well and they are including lots of expanded noun phrases which we have practised lots.
Next Friday there will be a bake-off competition for CHildren in Need, so year 4 will have their cake sale on Friday 24th.
Have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing everyone next week.
November 10th
We have been looking at Autumn and how the seasons change across the year.
We have also talked about armistice day, remembrance and the significance of poppies.
Nursery – 10.11.2023
This week we had a visit from Richard, the postman for this area who told us all about his job. The children listened really well to what he had to say and we asked him questions like ‘What time do you have to get up?’ and ‘what happens if it snows?’ He told us he drives a postvan that has lots of letters and parcels and told us what he does if he cannot deliver a parcel that cannot fit into a letterbox.
In RE this week we read a lovely story called ‘Welcome to the World’ and talked about what a very exciting time it is when a family welcomes a new baby. We reenacted welcoming a baby in class.
We also created a lovely post to welcome anyone into nursery and to the St Adrians community.
We read the book ‘Ava’s Poppy’ this week and talked about why we wear a poppy at this time of year. The children created their own poppy artwork.
