Nursery – 11.11.2022

This week we looked at some amazing firework displays online and the children were excited to tell me about the ones they had been to see over the weekend! In the classroom this week the children had the opportunity to make their own fireworks using chalk and black paper.

On Wednesday the children had their photographs taken so we practised smiling. The Nursery children really enjoyed sitting with their siblings while they waited for their turn.

We had hot chocolate this week! Yum! We had a go at pouring the hot chocolate ourselves!

Today we talked about why today, November 11th is an important day. The children learnt we wear a poppy to remember those who had died in war. The children watched a video about Poppy’s and had the chance to make one of their own.

Today we went up the stairs to visit the new library. The children were very excited to have a look at all the new more books and I know they enjoyed sitting in the new seating area. Enjoy reading the books at home.

We are continuing to look at Baptism next week, please remember to bring in any photos in as it would be nice for the children to share them with us.

Have a lovely weekend!

Nursery – 04.11.2022

What a busy week we have had in nursery! This week we looked at the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper which tells the tale of three friends who live together and make pumpkin soup. The cat, the duck and the squirrel each have different job to do in order to make the soup delicious but one day the duck decides he would like to do something different.

We had pumpkins in Nursery this week, the children observed as the pumpkins were opened and then had a feel of what was inside! The children had the opportunity to explore the pumpkin independently during learning through play. The children also had an area where they could make their own pumpkin soup – yummy!

We went into the hall to do some yoga, it was a bit tricky but we managed to copy all of the yoga moves.

Winter Warmer Wednesday!

On Wednesday we had our first Winter Warmer Wednesday! For snack we had hot chocolate and a biscuit – it was lovely to sit round the table and have a chat!

The children have been getting use to playing in other areas of the Nursery including the outside idea!

Please remember to bring in any Baptism photos you may have at home – it would be lovely if the children could share them with us.

Have a lovely weekend

Nursery – 21.10.2022

Harvest

This week the nursery children went to an assembly for the first time – the Harvest Festival assembly! The children have been rehearsing their song ‘Crunching Through the Leaves’ for the past couple of weeks and they did a fabulous job standing and singing on the stage in front of a very large audience. Well done Nursery.

On Tuesday we went out onto the field to collect leaves to make crowns and on Wednesday we had fun using lots of glue to make the leaves stick!

Winter Warmer Wednesday

Now that it’s starting to turn a bit colder we think we deserve something nice to warm us up! So each Wednesday between now and February half term the children will be able to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit on a Wednesday as part of their snack. Delicious!

After half term PE will be on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons!

We will also be thinking about Baptism in RE – if you have any baptism family photos please bring them in to share.

The children have worked really hard this half term and I hope you have a lovely break. Please don’t forget to post what you get up to on Tapestry and fill out those magic moments!

Nursery – Autumn 1

Welcome to our class page. We hope you enjoy seeing all the fantastic learning we have been doing in Nursery!

Settling in and exploring

The children have spent the beginning of this term settling in and exploring their new surroundings. They are getting more familiar with the routines happening throughout the day and are beginning to make friendships within the class.

Autumn Walk

As part of our topic ‘Autumn’ we went on an autumn walk around the school field. We wanted to find signs of autumn and used a checklist to help us, we had to hold our clipboard very carefully and tick off what we found outside.

A Special Celebration

Our lovely school had a birthday and to celebrate we planted some flowers around the birthday tree. Happy 60th Birthday St Adrians.

Welcome to St Adrian’s Post Office

The children were excited to come to school this morning because today was the opening of our new role play area – The Post Office! We talked about what you can do when you visit a post office and watched a small video of customers weighing and sending parcels and letters. The children enjoyed playing in our new role play today.

We have been singing every day our song for the Harvest Festival Assembly which will take place on Thursday 20th at 9:15am, thank you so much for the donations that have already come into school.

Have a lovely weekend.

Open Evening

Everyone is welcome! Whether you are the parent of one of our lovely children, or you are thinking of sending your child to our wonderful school, come along to celebrate all of the learning that has taken place this year, meet the teachers and visit the classrooms.

Wednesday, 6th July 2022 from 4pm until 6pm.

May is the month of Mary

During our May Day liturgy, the Chaplaincy Team led us as we gave thanks for Mary, the mother of Jesus. All the children created a poster that celebrated Mary’s role as Queen and these have been used as a prayer focus for all the classes. Thank you so much for all the amazing plant donations that have been used to really show how deep our thanks is to Mary. Our service ended with a tremendous May Pole dance by Year 4.

Lent and Easter at St Adrian’s

As part of our journey through Lent, this week, we have had our own Holy Week and Easter liturgies. The week started with a very thoughtful Stations of the Cross service led by our inspiring Year Six Chaplaincy Team. They created a tableau and reflection for each Station of the Cross and the children sang beautifully as part of this service.

In contrast, our joyful Easter Parade celebrated the children’s amazing creativity. Children from Foundation Stage made some superb Easter bonnets, Key Stage One children created brilliant Easter Gardens and the Key Stage Two children displayed their immense talents with a wonderful mix of liturgical art. The Chaplaincy Team had the unenviable task of choosing two winners for each class, but we were very pleased to celebrate everyone’s wonderful artwork. Well done to you all!

We wish you all a very happy and holy Easter.

RE Home learning for the whole school

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales have designated 2020 as ‘The God Who Speaks’: A Year of the Word to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Verbum Domini – Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on ‘The Word of the Lord’, and the 1600th anniversary of death of St Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin.  Cardinal Vincent Nichols has launched the Year of the Word across the diocese and further information can be found here: https://rcdow.org.uk/faith/2020-year-of-the-word-the-god-who-speaks/

As part of their RE home learning over the Christmas holiday, all children across the school are invited to think about the bible and the stories that are important to them.  Maybe they have stories from the bible that they love to read and talk about.  Share stories from the bible with your child and talk about what the stories mean to them.  When your child is ready, think about what story they would like to create a poster for to advertise the story to their friends at school.  Your child’s poster should include a clear title of the story or book from the bible and a beautiful image from the story.  Feel free to let your child add a description of the story and what it means to them.  We are looking forward to making a wonderful display of the posters and this will be a lovely way for us to start celebrating The Year of the Word in school.  Please return posters to your class by Wednesday 15th January.

2020 will be a year of celebrating, living and sharing God’s word, through a range of events, activities and resources, available across the Diocese of Westminster.  A lovely activity that is particularly pertinent to the time of year can be found here: https://rcdow.org.uk/faith/the-nativity-at-night

We look forward to seeing the posters that the children create to celebrate God’s Word.

Taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at children aged four to eleven and it is run in almost all libraries in the UK.

Visit your local library during the summer holidays to sign up – the sooner you go, the longer your child will have to read six books!

Staff will register your child for the Challenge and give them some fun materials to get them started.

Many libraries will also offer pre-school activities suitable for under-fours, including specially designed Summer Reading Challenge materials. Visit your local branch to find out more.

The Summer Reading Challenge is the UK’s biggest free reading for pleasure event for children. It is run by the national charity The Reading Agency in partnership with the UK public library network.

The aim of the Challenge is to encourage children to read any six books of their choice from their library during the summer holidays.

Children receive special rewards each time they finish a book and there’s a certificate for everyone who completes the Challenge.
