Reception - St Adrian

New life

Hello and welcome to our new page!
The website is up and running and I can't wait to share with you all the wonderful things we do in Reception class!
This week was extra special because we had our eggs delivered on Monday! The children were extremely excited and couldn't wait to see the chicks!!! When we came back on Tuesday we already had 3 chicks! We were very lucky to see one hatch in front of our eyes! It was magical!!!
By Wednesday morning we had 10 healthy chicks! Then we moved them into their new home and all children took part in making sure they have fresh water and food. We cleaned the bedding and kept them warm! Well done Reception for showing care, love and kindness!

This week we've had another very important celebration! We’ve been busy practicing our song, we painted rainbow flowers and of course decorated fantastic Mother’s day cards! In our writing sessions we were thinking about why we love mummy and how we can help her at home with chores!

The children had lovely ideas for why mummy is the best!

I love my mum because she is the best!
I love my mum because she always cares for me!
I love my mum because she is beautiful and cooks delicious meals.
I love my mum because she takes me to school every day!
I love my mum because she cuddles me every and reads a bedtime story!

And finally but not least, congratulations for all your hard work and motivation! You truly deserve the awards, red sash and golden rosette!!!

Next week we will create chicken life cycles, we will celebrate Neurodiversity week and start planting our veggie garden!

Have a fantastic weekend and wonderful Mothers day. Please make sure you check your child's Tapestry page for a special treat!
Looking forward to seeing you all next week!

Another busy week!

Hello and welcome to another week.
There is lots to share, as we are always busy learning, creating and playing.
In Little Wandle we finished all phase 3 sounds and will spend the rest
of the term revisiting them and learning how to implement them in our
writing. The children are starting to SPOT the digraphs while reading, which
really helps with decoding and fluency.

In Maths we talked about shapes with 4 sides. The children were
learning not just identifying them as a square and rectangle, but also
thinking about their proprieties:
The square has 4 equals sides.
The rectangle has 2 long and 2 short sides.
We went on a shape hunt around the school looking at windows, doors and
fences.

We also learnt that you can make shapes using shapes. For example if
you fold a square in half you will make a rectangle! We all had a go
practising using paper squares. In RE we are continuing our topic thinking about Jesus being born for everyone. We listened to the story about Jesus and the little children and then role played it. Here is a link if you would like to have a look too:

The children have been answering very tricky questions like:
What it means to welcome everyone?
Why do you think that Jesus loves the little children?
In English we fully embraced our new story ‘Whatever next’. Our story
corner turned into fireplace and picnic on the moon. We also created our own
version of the story and very detailed story map.

We did amazing writing short sentences during our Drawing club sessions.

And finally congratulations for all your hard work and motivation! You
truly deserve the awards, red and golden rosette!!!

Have a lovely weekend!

Epiphany

Happy New Year and welcome back everyone.
Hope you’ve had a restful holiday and are ready for another busy term!
We loved sharing Christmas stories and experiences during circle time. Some
children even heard Santa coming down the chimney :). Lucky!

This week we dedicated to Epiphany and talked a lot about the three kings
and how they gifted baby Jesus with very special gifts. We created beautiful
crowns using different shaped gems. We also dressed up as kings and
prepared special gifts for Jesus. It was a long journey....

The children made lovely Epiphany cards for friends and family and role
played the Christmas story again, thinking about how the Wise man
followed the Bethlehem star knowing a King was born!

We even made a beautiful display! Have a look!!!

In Little Wandle this week we learnt the first four of phase 3 sounds,
including our very first trigraph. The children are now able to describe
phonemes (1 letter that make 1 sound), digraphs (2 letters that make 1
sound) and trigraphs (3 letters that make 1 sound).

In Maths we talked about number 4 and 5, practiced recognising,
subitising and splitting the numbers into groups. We discussed 1 more than
a given number and created a Very hungry caterpillar books where the
caterpillar is eating one more fruit each day!

Outside was fun too.... There wasn’t enough snow to build a snowman,
however it was fun to cook snow soup in the mud kitchen and see how much
snow we can fit into a measuring jug!

Have a lovely weekend!
