Week beginning Monday, 16th March 2020
Here is a summary of the topics that year four are studying this week.
English – This week, our learning is based on a new text, the Mythologica by Steve Kershaw. This encyclopedia of gods, monsters and mortals from ancient Greece will be the springboard for our learning about non-chronological writing.
Maths – We begin a short unit on graphs, learning how to interpret picture graphs and bar graphs. We will learn how to interpret line graphs and use information in tables to draw graphs and make predictions based on trends seen in the data.
Religious education – Our new topic, self-discipline, looks at the liturgical season of Lent when people unite themselves with Christ in order to grow in self-discipline through prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
History – We look for connections over time whilst learning about the similarities and differences between the ancient and modern olympics.
Science – Our learning about states of matter continues with an investigation of the properties of gases.
Art – We continue our learning linked to ancient Greece, developing our drawing and painting skills to develop our own black-figure designs recounting the myth of King Midas.
Computing – We continue to work as co-authors to research and collate information together about the ancient Greek gods and goddesses.
We are also preparing for the performance of our Mother’s Day song and for our assembly, which has now been postponed until a later date.
