As part of St Adrian’s PE Curriculum we aspire to the School Games principles and values of:
Physical Education is an essential part of school life at St Adrian’s and children have the opportunity to develop a variety of skills, confidence and self-esteem through a wide range of sporting activities such as gymnastics, dance, tennis, multi-skills and basketball. We employ specialist sports coaches (Get Set 4 Sport) to enhance the curriculum in Key Stages 1 and 2 and deliver the requirements of the National Curriculum. Swimming is also an integral part of the curriculum and is offered to Lower Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 1.
The PE curriculum extends beyond the school day and a varied selection of extra-curricular clubs are offered during the school week. Extra- curricular activities are led by specialist coaches alongside the PE Co-ordinator and PE Apprentice so children receive high quality coaching. Through their participation children’s achieve beyond the recommended 2 hours of quality PE per week. Clubs are offered to both boys and girls although in particular sports they are year group specific for safety reasons. St Adrian’s is a member of the Schools Sports Partnership, and the St Albans Sports Association, through these links we are offered many sporting opportunities – coaching, participation in local and district competitions in a variety of sports, sports camps and leadership training. We have enjoyed great success over the years, especially in swimming.
Pupils take on the responsibility of leadership. Pupils from Year 5 & Year 6 take on the role of Ambassadors, House Sports Captains and play leaders. We have a school sports council and take part in national initiatives such as: National Sports Week, Sport Relief and the Golden Mile. All children participate in yearly Sports Days and intra- competitions on a termly basis. In these events the ambassadors and sports captains help in the organisation and running of these events.
