School Musical Activities

Children at St Adrian’s are involved in many musical activities, singing and playing instruments. Children perform to a high standard in whole school assemblies, Masses, Carol Concerts and Key Stage productions.

All Key Stage 2 pupils have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments. From Year 3 and above they can learn to play the recorder, and from Year 4 and above they may learn the guitar; these instruments are taught by Mrs. Goldsmith. Years 5 & 6 pupils may choose from flute, clarinet, oboe or saxophone; these instruments are taught by Ms. Walker.
Mrs Flint will be very happy to provide further information.

All the children from KS2 who learn to play an instrument in school perform at the Instrumental Concert during the Summer Term. A Music Group comprising of the Year 6 recorder and guitar players perform regularly in Assemblies and Masses.

All the children take part in a school Christmas production. Year 6 children take part in the Primary Schools’ Carol Service at St. Albans Abbey while the Year 5 pupils sing at the Music Festival in the Alban Arena.

Instrumental Concert

Towards the end of the academic year, the school holds an Instrumental Concert in which all those pupils learning an instrument in school have the opportunity to perform. In recent years about 80% of the pupils in Key Stage 2 take part in these concerts, performing on one or more instruments. The guitar groups always perform some sing-along songs for the audience to join in with.
